Steve Harley Acoustic trio

Steve Harley, the original Cockney Rebel, tours frequently with his Acoustic Trio, playing an intimate, unique and atmospheric show. The performance promises subtle lyricism, mingled with great improvisation and rocky rhythms. Close-Up Culture: “An intimate night in the presence of a great musician. An individual whose passion for live performance and perfection (it shows in his face) remains undiminished.” Harley received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Acoustic Music from the Acoustic Festival of Britain in June 2018. Steve will be accompanied by his Cockney Rebel band-mates of long-standing, Barry Wickens [violin & guitar] and James Lascelles [piano and percussion]. The set will be built around tracks from any or all 13 of Steve’s original albums and will include all-time favourites like Mr Soft, Judy Teen, Mr Raffles, Sebastian, and of course the world-wide classic hit, Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me), all blending in with more recent tracks from critically-acclaimed albums The Quality Of Mercy and Stranger Comes To Town. “Playing the songs in an acoustic format gives me time and space to enjoy every second. And we improvise, which is always a big excitement for any musician. We can loosen off the arrangements and really explore. It gets pretty exciting during the acoustic sets,” says Steve Harley. Steve Harley Acoustic Trio perform a set which is an unmissable chance for fans to connect with the man Rod Stewart has described as “One of the finest lyricists Britain has ever produced”, in a special setting. MOJO said simply, “Harley creates rock songs that are proud, lyrical and full of yearning.” Steve has also been described as “A consummate performer at the top of his game,” and this show will bear that out. Most recently, Close-Up Culture described Harley’s acoustic performance as “Achingly beautiful”.

The Strawbs started life as the Strawberry Hill Boys before emerging into the mainstream from the exciting British Folk Movement of the mid 60s alongside other such luminaries as Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Al Stewart and Roy Harper. Their first album with Sandy Denny attracted the attention of A&M Records in America and they became the first British Band to be signed by the famous label. Under the guidance of Herb Alpert & Gerry Moss, major chart success followed with seven consecutive albums in the Billboard charts, including classics ‘Bursting at the Seams’, ‘Grave New World’, ‘Hero & Heroine’, ‘Dragonfly’ and ‘Ghosts’, earning the band two Gold Albums along the way. Massive coast to coast American tours swiftly followed, sharing the stage with The Eagles, Santana and Frank Zappa. From the days of Sandy Denny pre Fairport and Sonja Kristina pre Curved Air, the band have enjoyed the finest of soloists in their ranks from Rick Wakeman followed by his son Oliver moving on to join Yes as well as Adam Wakeman joining Black Sabbath, Blue Weaver to The Bee Gees and Don Airey to Deep Purple. The Acoustic Strawbs of the 21st century consist of the founder, constant guiding force, originator and lead vocalist Dave Cousins, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best Dylan influenced songwriter to come out of the UK. Alongside him longtime band members lead guitarist Dave Lambert and the astonishingly versatile Chas Cronk, who together formed the front line of the classic 1970s Strawbs.

"The songwriting was phenomenal, and the way the trio embellished sublime melodies with supreme harmonies and incredible instrumentation made their performance unforgettable. In fact, I repeatedly thought "music just isn't this good anymore" (Philadelphia Examiner)

"Hearing the brilliant Strawbs was like a tutorial in UK folk music from the past 40 years". (Edmonton Sun)

"Never to rest on their laurels, this excellent band continue to produce classic tracks and spectacular live performances". (Q Magazine)

"Dave Cousins shows himself as a brilliant and original songwriter". (Classic Rock)

Wildwood Kin are a family trio whose sound is characterised by extraordinary harmonies.  Their brilliant debut album, while influenced by their early folk leanings,  delved deeply into other genres, featuring both electric and acoustic instruments, and boasted inventive sonics and spectral atmospherics alongside their hypnotic three-part harmonies. Guitarist Emillie Key, her bouzouki/keyboard-playing sister Beth and their drumming cousin Meghann Loney, all sing, swapping leads and joining forces on harmonies. Currently in the studio with producer Ian Grimble, they are working on their second album, much of which was written in the US.  The album is due out on Sony/Sivertone in May when the girls will be headlining a UK wide tour in conjunction with Bob Harris’ Under The Apple Tree brand. They have just released a covers ep “Voices of Equilibrium” and have recently topped 13 million streams on Spotify.

Julie Felix

"A Legend"

In 1964 Julie arrived in England after leaving California and hitchhiking through Europe with the guitar her father had given her.

It didn't take long before Julie took the seat as the resident singer on the amazingly popular TV Show ‘The Frost Report’, and quickly became a household name in the UK.

Only four years after stepping on our shore, Julie is given her own TV series of 17 shows, the first colour series produced by the BBC, and is sold to virtually every country in the world. Guests include Spike Milligan, Richard Harris, Leonard Cohen, Dusty Springfield, Donovan, and Jimmy Page.

Throughout the 60s and 70s Julie’s career flourished, and her music reflected her heartfelt beliefs and her love affair with nature.

In the 1980s she moved back to California and took a break from the music world. An experience on a peace march in Central America in the late 80's inspired Julie to pick up her guitar and start singing again Two decades later of none stop activity, in October 2013 Julie was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla.

What began for little Julie as simple home entertainment, as her father and his friends played Mariachi music into the small hours of the morning, has actually been this remarkable woman’s vocation for half a century......and fortunately for us.....it still is!

ROGER DAVIES AND HIS BAND

Roger Davies has established himself as one of today’s most engaging songwriters through five solo albums and live performances around the UK. Davies accompanied folk/rock legends Fairport Convention in 2016 on a thirty date tour and subsequently formed his own dynamic band, recorded and released their debut album and enjoyed a succession of sold out shows along with a stunning performance at the 2018 Great British Folk Festival. “Beautifully structured and expertly crafted examples of the singer-songwriter’s art” - Rock N Reel Roger Davies’s track history speaks for itself, with glowing reviews and endorsements from all who see his live show and guaranteed to please a festival, theatre or club audience with his upbeat, accessible blend of self-penned folk rock songs.

KATHERINE PRIDDY

"Birmingham-based folk artist Katherine Priddy has recently emerged onto the scene with her long-awaited debut EP 'Wolf', which has already been well received by the BBC 2 Folk Show, BBC 6 Music and BBC Wales and has had some excellent reviews. The great Richard Thompson recently named it as his 'Best Thing I've Heard All Year' in MOJO Magazine whilst Folk Radio UK pronounced the release to be "something extraordinary indeed...one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. Her tone, phrasing pitch and sentiment...it’s flawless". At only 24, it seems hard to imagine that Priddy's haunting vocals and finger picking guitar style have already been captivating audiences around the UK for the past 7 years. Birmingham Review state that her “pure vocal tone conveys the lyrics of the songs perfectly, and creates a hypnotic ambience that transports us into the stories”, whilst Bearded Magazine have praised her “endearing folk voice, and an incredible quality to her guitar playing”. Recent years have seen her reputation grow and grow on the back of successful performances supporting people like Martin Carthy, Scott Matthews, Trembling Bells and Vashti Bunyan as well as sell-out home town shows.  Things are only getting better this year, with a string of festival performances planned as well as a tour of Ireland with Richard Thompson himself. Priddy’s original works are delivered with an emotional maturity, depth and a vulnerable tenderness that still carries a darker edge, citing Nick Drake, Tunng and Imagined Village amongst her many influences. It's clear that, despite the delicate nuances of her sound, Katherine Priddy is not a fragile wallflower destined to fade away, but a young woman who means business."

Bristol dreamscape pioneers Ålesund (pronounced Aww-le-sund) released their debut EP Shift & Flux on 15th Feb 2019 which has been championed by BBC Introducing in the West and BBC Bristol. Immersive sound; rolling drums; intricate guitar work; and soaring vocals, Ålesund are an atmospheric force from the trip hop heartland that create expansive, emotive and exhilarating sound worlds.
